PROJECT:  Empowering Girls one Arrow at a Time

Madison built two outdoor archery target stands and purchased two outdoor archery targets and 24 arrows using money fundraised for her Silver Award Project,“Empowering Girls, One Arrow at a Time.” These were given to Camp E-Kow-Ah to provide a better archery experience for all Girl Scouts attending camp. She also organized and held a one-day practical course, certifying six Girl Scout leaders and volunteers as USA Archery Level 1 Instructors.

PROJECT: Place Making with Community Gardens

I created an animation to share how important and beneficial a community garden can be and how important places in the community or friends to spend time together are. I was inspired by my work in the Serve More Community garden and by my experience volunteering with From Seed to Spoon. I know that people in our community need more food and that gardening is a fun outdoor activity that lots of people enjoy. I volunteered at 2 Children’s Gardening Festivals with From Seed to Spoon. I met Dale Spoonmore while volunteering at the festivals. Here is a video showing more of that: https://youtu.be/oB6H0TGNyoU?si=QRCYqi9c5WhEfiaQ I talked about how important pollinators are for the environment to younger children at kids. I used chalk and paper with printed flowers to explain how the pollen moves from plant to plant and helps the plants make fruit and seeds for the next generation of plants. I enjoyed sharing my knowledge with younger kids. Later in the fall I volunteered with Serve Moore and met Chris Fox. He let me know that the community garden, a Serve More community project, was looking for a new home because there would be a new structure on that land the community garden was borrowing. We talked about how it is important to have a place for like minded people do share interest and how that the community garden was one of those places for me. Gardens can grow friendships and food. I learned about the idea of placemaking from Mr Fox and decided that is what my project would be about the idea of placemaking and using my community garden experience and volunteer work at the food rescue center and my new gardening knowledge as an examples in the animation.  https://youtu.be/7yc6FnIIgwo?si=FmkazeePPg8d-ilU
